McLELLAN, BRENNAN HISTORY

“Celebrating 50 Years 1959-2009"

Our Summerside law firm was founded by the Honourable Alexander B. Campbell in 1959. Alex, as he subsequently became known, went on to become Premier of Prince Edward Island and subsequently a Supreme Court Justice. While there have been many PEI barristers & solicitors associated with the firm over the years, some of the other more notable ones include: the Honourable J. Armand DesRoches who served as a Deputy Judge, Advocate General, and became Chief Justice of the Trial Division of the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island, the late J. Melville Campbell, Q.C. who was a Mayor of Summerside, the Honourable Benjamin B. Taylor, Q.C. went on to also become a Supreme Court Justice, and Walter A. McEwen, Q.C., who still serves as Counsel to the firm and who was a former Health Minister and Attorney General.

There were many other PEI lawyers of the firm who also served the public well in the practice of law, and contributed greatly to community and public service. Certainly the staff that has served our firm over the last fifty years can take a bow, for they have served the firm and the public well. It is good to remember all of those, some who have now passed that have served our firm and the public so well as we now approach fifty years of service.

Today our firm has two partners, Bloyce V. McLellan, Q.C. and John A. Brennan, and Counsel, Walter A. McEwen, Q.C.. These three lawyers in PEI bring to the firm over seventy-five years of experience.
